Sci Genix'25 is the Royal College Science Association's premier initiative exploring the intersection of science and imagination. By utilizing science fiction as an educational tool, the project bridges the gap between theoretical academic concepts and their creative, real-world possibilities.
The project featured a series of screenings designed to challenge students' scientific reasoning. This year’s selection— Andromeda, Interstellar, and The Martian—provided the basis for an intense Movie Quiz. Participants were tasked with dissecting cinematic narratives to identify and explain the underlying principles of biology, chemistry, and physics.
A major highlight was the All-Island Sci-Fi Short Story Competition. Under the theme "The Intersection of Science, Technology, and Society", students from across Sri Lanka submitted work that balanced narrative flair with logical scientific hypothesizing.
